부산 부전역에 들어선 스마트병원에는 총 17층 가운데 저층부에는 7개 진료과목을 갖춘 준종합 병원이, 상층부는 글로벌 체인 호텔 Ibis Ambassodor 호텔이 들어서 있다.

[부산=NSP통신] 최상훈 기자 = 병원에 들어서면서 만나는 모든 의료진들이 호텔보다 친절했다. 언제나처럼 딱딱한 병원의 이미지는 어디에서도 찾을 수 없었다.

간호사들은 물론 의사들도 복도에서 마주치는 모든 이들을 보고 웃었다. 그리고 인사를 건넸다. 전국에서 처음 호텔과 같이 복합형으로 건립된 스마트병원을 찾은 첫인상이다.

설립부터 병원과 호텔을 결합한 의료 휴식 복합형 병원이 부산 한복판에 문을 열었다. 부산 부전역에 들어선 스마트병원(병원장 김양후 의학박사)이다. 17층의 저층부는 병원이, 상층부는 글로벌 체인 호텔인 아이비스 앰베서더 호텔이 위치했다.

의료관광이 마치 의료산업의 살길인 양 모든 지자체들이 앞다퉈 의료관광을 외치고 있는 요즈음 스마트병원은 세간의 화제다. 시기섞인 우려와 함께 전국에서 처음으로 의료와 호텔을 묶어 새로운 아이콘을 만들었다는 긍정적인 평가가 엇갈리고 있다.

이같은 우려와 긍정적 평가속에 스마트병원은 기존 병원들답지 않게 의료진 모두 지금까지의 병원이미지를 벗어던지고 ‘진짜 의료서비스업’ 종사자로 환자들을 만나려는 태도가 입가의 웃음에서 다분이 느낄 수 있었다.

이미 공식 개원식 전부터 입원한 환자들이 종종 눈에 띄었는데 환자들까지 밝다는 느낌을 받을 정도로 병원은 호텔같은 분위기였다.

호텔이 상층부에 있는게 아니라 병원안에 있었다. 김 원장은 미국의 유명 병원 주위에는 깨끗한 호텔들이 들어서 있는 점이 많이 부러웠단다.

그래서 호텔을 안은 병원을 동료 의사들과 힘을 모아 건립했지만 그렇다고 해서 의료관광이라는 커다란 목표를 두고 있지는 않다고 말한다.

먼저 주위 시장 상인들이, 그리고 부산시민들이 나아가 부산을 찾는 많은 타지 손님들이 깨끗한 환경에서 최고의 의료서비스를 받도록하는게 그의 바램이다.

그는 부산을 찾는 외국인들이 모두 바닷가나 관광지만을 보기를 원하지 않는다고 확신한다. 정말로 한국적인 전통 시장이나 번화가, 진정한 부산을 느낄 수 있는 곳을 둘러보기 원하는 외국인들이 많아 부산최대의 전통시장인 부전시장과 부산 최대의 번화가를 인근에 두고 있는 부산 부전동이야 말로 안성맞춤인 장소라는데 상당한 기대를 걸고 있다.

세계적인 체인이 위탁운영을 맡은 호텔은 이미 일본인들과 중국인들로 북적 거리고 있었다. 이 호텔은 인근에 있는 일본의 비지니스 호텔 ‘도요꼬인’과 ‘롯데호텔’의 중간급이라고 한다. 꼭대기에 스타이라운지와 프론트가 나란히 위치해 있어 기존 생각의 틀을 바꿔놓았으며 1층에 근린상가를 배치, 필요한 면적을 최대한 효율적으로 살리려는 상당한 고심의 흔적이 엿보였다.

스마트병원 김양후 원장은 진정한 의료서비스로 지역 주민들과 함께 하고 그 다음 의료관광을 논하자는 주장이다.

이 병원은 9층까지 병원, 17층까지는 이비스앰배서더호텔이다. 특이하게도 한방병원을 포함한 12개 진료과목을 갖춘 준종합병원으로 종합검진센터와 국제진료센터를 갖추고 있다.

병상만도 224개를 갖춰 이상 소견이 확인된 환자는 2차병원으로 옮겨다닐 필요없이 바로 이 병원에서 입원, 수술을 받을 수 있다.

성형외과 치과 소아청소년과 이비인후과 비뇨기과 외과 내과 마취통증과 그리고 종합검진센터와 한방과에 이르기까지 병원내부에서 협진이 가능하다.

김 원장은 병원의 주인은 환자들이지만 건립비용은 의사들이 각출했다며 환하게 웃는다. 조금더내고 덜 낸 사람이 있지만 사실상 의사 각자들이 모두 주인이라는 얘기다. 그만큼 최선을 다하겠다는 뜻으로 받아들여 졌다.

김 원장은 부산의 의료진이 세계 수준이라고 단언한다. 병원과 의사를 찾아 서울로 서울로 갈 필요가 없다는 것을 강조하면서 의술은 부산이 뒤지지 않는다 이제 진정한 의료서비스로 지역 주민들과 함께 하고 그 다음 의료관광을 논하자는 주장이다.

그래서 그는 의료와 관광을 동급으로 보지 않는다. 의료만으로 관광객을 모으는 산업으로 성장할 수는 없으며 관광의 한 영역에서 의료서비스가 이뤄지는 것이라는 평소 소신을 갖고 있다. 김 원장은 부산이 다른 지역과 달리 학회나 협의회가 총괄, 의료계가 다이나믹하게 움직이고 있는 것도 부산의 의료시장 전망을 밝게하는 큰 요소하고 평가하고 있다.

요즈음 의사들은 병원 운영이 많이 힘들다고들 말한다. 그래서 전보다 훨씬 허리띠를 더 졸라메고 있다고 푸념들이 잦아졌다.

이처럼 가뜩이나 경기불황이 모든 이들의 마음을 움추리게 만들고 있는 요즈음 새로운 시도로 새로운 개척에 나선 스마트병원에게 많은 부산시민들이 기대어린 시선을 보내고 있다.

개원식이 열리던 지난 14일, 병원 엘리베이터에서 만난 입원환자 이선일(43. 가명) 씨는 “이 병원 너무 친절하고 좋아요” 하고 개원식 참석차 병원을 찾은 이들에게 묻지도 않는 말을 던졌다.

환자들이라면 누구나 바라는 '친절한 병원'. 의료관광이라는 테마로 세간의 화제로 떠오른 스마트병원에게 바라는 환자들이 진정한 바람이다.

부산최대의 전통시장인 부전시장과 부산 최대의 번화가를 인근에 두고 있는 스마트병원은 전통과 현대가 어우러져 외국인들의 관광에 안성맞춤인 위치에 자리잡고 있다.

Doctors as well as nurses are smiling and greeting everyone they meet in the corridors. This is the first impression of the Smart Hospital, founded as a complex of hospital and hotels for the first time in Korea.

A medical and recuperation complex hospital combining a hospital and hotel from establishment opened in the center of Busan. It is the Smart Hospital(CEO: Kim Yanghoo, M.D.) opening next to Bujeon Station, the heart of Busan. The lower stories of the 17 floor building will be occupied by the hospital, and in the upper floors is a Global Hotel franchise, Ibis Ambassador Hotel.

While the new concept of medical tourism has been a hot topic of late, Smart Hospitals are at the brink of attention. There has been mixed responses ranging from jealous concern to positive outlook on this new icon of binding hospitals with hotels.

However, regardless of the focus of public attention, Smart Hospital is trying to escape the monotonous mannerism of traditional hospitals and to approach patients as a medical service provider.

This was apparent from the smile of the hospital staff. Even the few patients who were admitted in the hospital before the official opening seemed cheerful.

The hotel is not just on the upper floors of the hospital but inside it. Dr. Kim was always envious of the fact that there were good hotels around famous hospitals in America. So he founded the hospital containing in it a hotel.

Medical tour is not his ultimate goal. He hopes that the small businesses around the hospital and the Busan citizens and furthermore the many visitors to Busan can enjoy the best medical services in a pleasant environment.

He is certain that not all of the foreigners to visit Busan want to just come for the beaches or famous tourist attractions. He thinks many of them would like to walk around to fully witness what the real Busan is all about like the traditional markets and downtown.

So he expects Bujeon-dong with Bujeon Market, the biggest traditional market of Busan and next to Seomyeon, the most happening place of Busan is an optimal spot.

The hotel managed by a global franchise is already packed with Japanese and Chinese tourists. Its class is said to be somewhere between Toyoko Inn, a japanese business hotel and Lotte Hotel, a five-star hotel. It aims to go against stereotypes by locating the sky lounge and the front desk at its top floor.

Also, by allocating its ground floor as a shopping center exhibits the efforts they went through to maximize the efficiency of space.

The complex is composed of the hospital from the 3rd to the 9th floor and the hotel from the 10th to the top floor. The hospital is a semi general hospital consisting of 12 medical departments including oriental medicine, comprehensive health screening center and an international Health Care Center. It is equiped with 224 beds and the patients whose diagnosis is confirmed can be admitted and operated right here without the need to move to a secondary hospital.

Also cooperative medical treatments between plastic surgery, dentistry, pediatrics, ENT, urology, surgery, internal medicine, anesthesiology, oriental medicine, and comprehensive health screening center are available.

Dr. Kim commented that"The owners of this hospital are the patients but the expense to build it was collected from its doctors."with his usual smile on his face. That means that all of the doctors, regardless of their initial investment, are the owners of the hospital who you will be able to trust to do their best.

He asserts that the medicine of Busan is world class. So there is no need to go to Seoul for better hospitals or doctors. But it is his belief that before medical tourism it is important that the hospital's medical service reaches out to the local community.

He doesn't put tour on the same level as medical services. He naturally believes that medical service itself will not be able to allure tourists, but should become a service that is readily selectable as a part of tourism. He foresees the future of Busan medical market to be bright because its medical community is very active throughout the academic society and conferences unlike other areas.

These days, doctors complain that it is very tough to successfully manage hospitals. Things don't look as good as they used to. Many Busan people are observing hopeful at the Smart Hospital which is trying to develop a new field with new concepts in a woeful economy today.

On Nov. 14, Mr. S. I. Lee(43, pseudonym) was saying"This hospital is so kind and nice."to those who visited it for the opening ceremony although no one really asked him how it was.

'A Kind Hospital'. That is what every patient really hopes. And it is the sincere hope of patients that they will find it in the Smart Hospital everyone is talking about.
