(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = In the wake of Mercedes-Benz Korea’s Incheon apartment fire, electric vehicle makers are disclosing battery manufacturer information and implementing customer safety checks.

Hyundai and Kia unveiled BMS(Battery Management System) technology, a battery management system that has been developed and perfected over 15 years of know-how, as well as battery information disclosure and safety inspection services.

Hyundai and Kia BMS not only diagnoses at all times during driving and charging, but also wakes up periodically during parking when the engine is off to closely monitor the battery cells for abnormalities.

When abnormal signs are detected in the battery, the BMS performs necessary safety control and immediately notifies the customer according to the level of risk. Abnormal sign data diagnosed by the BMS is immediately transmitted to the remote support center, and a text message is automatically sent to the customer to guide the inspection and emergency dispatch.

Hyundai and Kia(including Genesis) plans to conduct a pilot operation starting next week when the system is completed. They also plan to develop a system that automatically notifies relevant authorities immediately when a serious problem is determined to have occurred

Meanwhile, the number of manufacturers participating in battery information disclosure has been increasing recently, following the recent electric vehicle fire accident in Incheon. Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors, KG Mobility, BMW, Benz, Renault, Volvo, and Polestar are disclosing battery manufacturer information. Porsche, Stellantis, and Jaguar Land Rover are also planning to disclose battery manufacturers this month. GM and Volkswagen plan to decide whether to disclose after consulting with their headquarters. However, Tesla Korea has decided not to disclose battery information but to “respond quickly if any abnormal symptoms are detected.”
