(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Korean Air will begin maintenance of the next-generation ‘Geared Turbo Fan(GTF) engine’ from Pratt & Whitney(P&W), a global aircraft engine manufacturer.
P&W’s GTF engine is a key aircraft engine that is expected to lead the civil aircraft market in the future. It is characterized by a gear structure design that maximizes efficiency by rotating the engine at optimum speed.
Starting with this initial order, Korean Air will receive and service more than 100 next-generation GTF engines from overseas airlines every year. Korean Air is the first in the domestic aviation maintenance field to receive such a large-scale overseas order.
Starting with this next-generation GTF engine maintenance project, Korean Air plans to further strengthen its cooperation with P&W and further solidify its position as an engine-specialized MRO company.
In addition, it plans to contribute to the development of the domestic aviation MRO industry by expanding the latest engine maintenance plant being prepared on Yeongjong Island, Incheon and creating jobs.
