(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Samsung Electronics recorded operating profit of 6 trillion won in the semiconductor(DS) division, accounting for more than half of its total operating profit. Samsung Electronics announced on the 31st that it recorded sales of 74.7 trillion won and operating profit of 10.44 trillion won in the second quarter of this year.

Sales increased by 3% for the entire company compared to the previous quarter, and the DS division increased by 23% due to the recovery of the memory industry. Displays(SDC) also increased sequentially due to strong OLED sales. Operating profit increased by 3.84 trillion won compared to the previous quarter.

In the second half of the year, demand for server memory products such as HBM, DDR5, and SSD for building AI servers in the market is expected to remain strong as major cloud service providers and general enterprises expand their investments in artificial intelligence(AI) servers.

Samsung Electronics plans to expand its HBM3E sales proportion by expanding its HBM production capacity to actively respond to the demand for high value-added products for AI servers. In the server DRAM sector, it also plans to strengthen its market competitiveness with high-capacity products such as 128GB and 256GB modules based on 1b nano 32Gb DDR5.
