(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Hanwha Ocean has won a contract for the U.S. Navy’s ship maintenance project. With this contract, Hanwha Ocean has entered the U.S. Navy ship MRO market worth approximately 20 trillion won per year.

Hanwha Ocean announced on the 29th that it had won a contract for a 40,000-ton US Navy logistics support ship depot maintenance project. This project is a regular depot maintenance project for large US Navy ships that can only be carried out by companies certified under the Ship Maintenance Refit Agreement(MSRA), and it is the first project to be carried out by a domestic shipyard.

Under this contract, the U.S. Navy logistics support ship will enter Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje plant and undergo maintenance and inspection of the entire ship. In addition, land-based maintenance work will be performed using the shipyard’s floating facilities.

Hanwha Ocean’s first domestic order for a U.S. military vessel is said to have opened up a new market for K-Ocean’s defense products and provided a bridgehead for the company to expand its global defense exports.

“In the global ship MRO market, which is expected to reach more than KRW 80 trillion annually, this entry into the U.S. Navy’s maintenance business will be a big step forward,” said a Hanwha Ocean representative.
