(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = SK Geocentric, a subsidiary of SK Innovation’s chemical business, will build a plastic recycling joint plant in France.
SK Geocentric announced that it has completed the selection of a site in Saint-Avold region of northeastern France for the establishment of a plastic recycling joint plant with SUEZ, a French water resources and waste management company, and Loop Industries(hereinafter referred to as Loop) of Canada.
The three companies, including SK Geocentric, decided to invest about 450 million euros (about 620 billion won) to start construction of the plant in early 2025 and complete it in 2027 to have the capacity to supply about 70,000 tons of recycled plastic(PET) per year.
Saint-Avold is located in the heart of a densely populated region in northeastern Europe. Based on efficient industrial infrastructure such as roads and railroads, it has an optimal environment for establishing recycling plants.
The plant not only provides a solution to companies targeting the production of packaging materials and products using recycled plastics, but also responds to the growing demand for recycled plastic(PET) due to European environmental regulations.
The plant’s recycling facility applies the depolymerization process developed by Loop. This makes it possible to process a very wide range of plastic raw materials. Waste plastic raw materials put into the process are supplied through a global partnership owned by Suez.
