(Seoul=NSP News Agency) eunyoung Huh Journalist = It was reportedly found that the public and private institutions which violated the construction waste law the most over the last five years were Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and Hyundai E&C.
According to the Land Infrastructure and Transport Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, the violation cases of LH and Hyundai E&C were 162 and 125, respectively between 2017 and 2021.
The construction waste law provides that construction companies shall report on waste materials and byproducts produced in the process of all types of construction including building, rebuilding and remodeling and put them to a legal waste disposal process. Leaving construction waste untreated or illegally dumping the waste could result in environmental pollution, risking the health of nearby residents.
An official from Hyundai E&C said, “The violation cases of Hyundai E&C were reportedly the highest as we have been working at a lot of construction sites across the nation. But we will do our best to reduce them.”
LH also said that it will enhance its environmental management system by providing a support for waste management training and professional consulting to reduce the violation cases as well.
