(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Samsung Electronics reported on Wednesday that it posted KRW 7.91 trillion in sales and KRW 9.18 trillion in operating profit in the third quarter of this year. The weak performance is attributed to the recovery in demand for D-RAM and the delayed commercialization of HBM. The fourth quarter results are also expected to show limited growth due to weakness in the set business.

Company-wide revenue increased 7% sequentially, marking our largest quarterly revenue in history. The previous record was KRW 77.78 trillion in Q1 2022.

Mobile experience(MX) improved 13% quarter-on-quarter due to the launch of new smartphone models, while the semiconductor(DS) division rose 3% quarter-on-quarter due to increased sales of high-end memory.

Gross profit was KRW 30 trillion, up slightly sequentially due to the expansion of MX's flagship-driven sales. Operating income decreased by KRW 1.26 trillion sequentially to KRW 9.18 trillion due to the impact of one-time expenses, including incentive provisions in the DS segment. The one-time charge in DS was larger than the difference between company-wide operating profit and market consensus.

Display improved in the small and medium segment in response to new smartphone launches at major customers, but operating profit declined sequentially in the large segment.

Performance by business division is as follows: ▲DS division sales of KRW 29.27 trillion, operating profit of KRW 3.86 trillion ▲DX division sales of KRW 44.99 trillion, operating profit of KRW 3.37 trillion ▲Harman sales of KRW 3.53 trillion, operating profit of KRW 3.6 trillion ▲Samsung Display (SDC) sales of KRW 8 trillion, operating profit of KRW 1.51 trillion.

In the fourth quarter, growth is expected to be limited despite growth in the semiconductor sector due to weakness in the set business.
